Why I'm Upset With The AMA Nominations
I'm just going to pre-mention that I hate award shows because they're so male saturated and (usually racially and gender) biased, it's like a huge circle jerk.
ANYWAYS, the nominations for the AMA's came out, and I'm extremely upset. I'm not upset because Rihanna, Kehlani and Beyonce were nominated for Favourite Female Artist Soul/R&B, I'm upset because that is the only category for women within hip-hop to identify with.
I'm upset because even though there are many hip-hop categories, such as, Favourite Song Soul/R&B, Favourite Album Soul/R&B, Favourite Artist Rap/Hip-Hop, Favourite Album Rap/Hip-hop, Favourite song Rap/Hip-Hop, they only nominated men for these categories.
I'm upset there isn't a Rap/Hip-hop category for women and I'm even more upset that women aren't integrated within these pre-existing categories.
I'm upset because mainstream media hasn't highlighted female hip-hop talent and that they never considered artists like Little Simz, Sabrina Claudio, Jessie Reyez, Kodie Shane, Princess Nokia, Jorja Smith, SZA, Cardi B, AND SHALL I GO ON???
I'm just upset, and disappointed.
Who did you want to see nominated?
