Insecure

APRIL IS OUT AND SPRING IS SLOWLY GIVING US THE WEATHER WE'VE BEEN WAITING FOR!!

One of the things I love to do to kick off the nice weather is start a new show and I've been meaning to watch "Insecure" created and produced by Issa Rae.

HBO Canada

HBO Canada

If you haven't heard of ISSA RAE, I feel bad for you because she's one of the sickest lyricist I have come across and a whole actress, producer, director, and web series creator.

I first discovered the show when I was listening to SZA and found the song "Quicksand" and then I JUST HAD TO GET THE REST OF THE TRACK LIST on Apple Music featuring aritsts like Kari Faux, Problem, and Leikeli47. Ya'll if the track list fire, the show fire🔥😂 lowkey.

Insecure follows the awkward experiences and racy tribunals of modern day black women, Issa and Molly. It's honestly about being insecure with yourself, your friendships and relationships, and life in general. Issa works to help young students find passions and opportunities in life, while struggling with her relationship with her boyfriend and the sexy music producer from her past 👀Molly, on the other hand, is a real life lawyer and professional dater, but never finds the man of her dreams cause she's lowkey crazy when it comes to guys.

In creating and writing the show, this is not for dudes. It’s not for white people. It’s the show that I imagined for my family and friends. That’s what I think of when I’m writing the scenes.

One of the things I really love about this show is how real it is. The relationship dynamics and their lives change in an instance with just a few actions and words. It's truly raw and so awkward at times, you gotta laugh.

I also love how Issa portrayed how black women are treated in the workforce. For example, Issa works with an after school program that focuses on building life-skills for mostly black students, working with a relatively white staff. Another example, Molly works at a firm where you can see she's the only woman of colour. I don't want to give everything away, but let's just say, in the show Molly shows us how black women have to behave in order to keep their job.

Here is the trailer video so you can start binge watching it like i did lol

There are currently two seasons out, but it's on HBO, so here is a link to the show if you guys want to check it out here

COMMENTS YOUR THOUGHTS ON THE SHOW!! I WANNA KNOW WHAT YOU GUYS THINK :)
