Years ago, Def Jam Poetry was a television series that invited poets like Kanye West, Lauryn Hill, Wyclef and Erykah Badu to preform.

Listen to the energy in their voices, and notice the attention to detail in their words, their pronunciation, their rhythm and their overall connection to the crowd. In this day and age, modern technology has shifted the game to being something so fast paced, making artists focus on the sound and the energy that the song transmits to the crowd rather than both sound and lyricism.

Don't get me wrong, there are pro's and con's to the influence of technology on music today. It's interesting to notice the change overtime caused by external influences.

Our top 3 female DEF JAM POETRY slams are the following:

1. LAURYN HILL - Motives And Thoughts

2. ERYKAH BADU - Friends, fans, and artists

Enjoy the videos and music you love, upload original content, and share it all with friends, family, and the world on YouTube.

3. ALICIA KEYS - Tears For Water

The depth of this poem, the energy she gave the crowd. Goosebumps everywhere.
