Jessie Reyez's Gives Us Chills with her video for 'Great One'
Jessie Reyez's name has been buzzing all around and I couldn't be happier. She deserves all the recognition in the world for her art, mostly her most recent visual release for 'Great One'. The day it released, I was at work and began to literally tear up, it is so powerful.
"Dreams run in my family. A week before my uncle passed, he dreamt of my family dancing in [sanicula square] together. And of my grandmother preparing his paradise for him in the after life. When my childhood friend passed, I also dreamt of him. He told me that hell didn't exist and that heaven was beautiful."
This song is part of her 7 track EP: Kiddo released earlier this year, which is overall one of the most well rounded EP's ive heard. She expresses anger, sadness, happiness, all delivered with so much power and versatility all while shinning light on REAL LIFE SHIT. Earlier this year, she also released one of the most important mini film, 'Gatekeeper', which examines the inequality and sexism women experience as an artist within the industry. 100% UNIQUE. The music video is very personal to her family and childhood. She explains on Instagram her inspiration behind the video which was shot in beautiful Colombia.
