MTL-Based Artist Laye drops her debut single 'likefck' & its not something you want to miss
Montreal-based artist, laye, premieres her debut single “likefck” today. “likefck” was written by laye/Joel Stouffer/Kevin Maher and produced by Joel Stouffer (Bülow, Dragonette, Ria Mae). Lyrically the single is an emotionally dynamic, brooding love song dripping with the sense of longing and loss. Musically, “likefck’s” slow build is punctuated by laye’s heavenly refrain before launching into a bombastic chorus.
As an artist laye is never complacent, always inspired.
While she is focused on establishing herself as a singer/songwriter, laye considers her overall aesthetic to be of equal importance as her music when it comes to her artistic identity. She is adventurous, dark, moody, beautiful and mysterious. She is inspired by art—from photography to painting to interior design and architecture—and just as she draws upon her life experiences for her song lyrics, she incorporates references from her various sources of inspiration for everything from her personal styling to her album artwork to her social media feed.
laye grew up in Montreal but her desire for new experiences, expanded learning and increased collaboration drew her to Toronto, Los Angeles, New York and beyond. She ravenously attended writing camps and recording sessions and kept adding songs to her works-in-progress. Between August 2017 and April 2018 laye wrote approximately 50 songs working with established producers including Lauren Christy (G-Eazy “Me Myself and I” Dua Lipa “Blow Your Mind”), FNZ (G-Eazy, A$AP Rocky, Denzel Curry, Fetty Wap), Ben Harrison & Ibrahim Asmar (Rihanna, Rita Ora, James Arthur, Blvk Jvck), Joel Stouffer (Bülow, Dragonette, Ria Mae), Pomo (Anderson .Paak, Mac Miller).
It has been three years since laye first started to experiment with making her own music, but in that short time she has developed a unique and striking vocal style that will surely be her signature as her music career continues to evolve.
