Nitty Scott takes us on a journey into an indigenous utopia in short film | "La Diaspora"

Nitty Scott is an artist we were recently introduced to by local Waterloo creative artist/painter Nikolina Kupcevic and we are so grateful because Scott's art deserves the utmost respect for opening up discussion of the history of indigenous people.

The 7 minute short film is explores a journey into an indigenous utopia where Afro-descendants are free to sustain and uplift each other without interference from the oppressive society. The video is filled with detailed indigenous traditional and cultural attire, dance and practice; opening your eyes up to their unique, down to earth, and simple way of living before colonization. It is so heart warming and beautiful, honestly.

On her interview with The Fader, she explain the inspiration behind her song and visuals: " "La Diaspora' is a tribute to the women warriors of the diaspora. It's about bonding and healing over collective nostalgia for an ancient culture we should be living and still feel connected to. This is dedicated to 'la hija de la diaspora,' or the daughters of the diaspora, descendants of Africa and indigenous peoples. For the film, I created a colorful indigenous utopia in my head, free of all oppression and colonization. A narrative that does not begin with slave ships, but with native community, living amongst nature and in alignment with the earth." - The Fader: http://www.thefader.com/2017/08/29/nitty-scott-celebrates-la-diaspora-in-new-short-film

Nitty Scott really is something special. She is often compared to (positively) to Princess Nokia for their spirituality and focus on keeping the livelihood of the indigenous culture alive, and ya'll know how much we already love Nokia.
