15 WOMXN IN HIP HOP TO WATCH IN 2019
This year has been a serious success for women in music and we couldn’t be more proud & excited to support the come up of these talented women, making their voices heard. There is an immense amount of variety of different sounds, vibes and messages being released that are finally receiving some recognition. Shoutout to the BOSS WOMXN, makin’ waves for us to ride.
I was having a conversation with my sister, who experienced the important years in Hip Hop, comparing the similarities & differences we see today from the 80’s-90’s. I won’t get into the details, but one main point we saw was that there were high numbers of women releasing thoughtful and intelligent music. I’m looking at Billboards top songs in HipHop/RnB right now…
The consumeristic behaviour we are seeing in Hip Hop paints a perfect image of what North America is: surfaced.
I’ll save more on that topic for another blog, but my point is: we seriously need to take responsibility for what we are consuming. We need to realize how seriously impactful the internet is & how what you are seeing and hearing everyday shapes your reality. Think about how much music you listen to a day, and how many of those artists you follow on social media, and how many hours you spend seeing their content?
I know for a fact since I’ve started to push my awareness of what I was consuming (not just musically), my perspective on many relevant topics has grown, my understanding of Hip Hop has deepened and I am able to better critically think & analyze the reality of our complicated world. Now don’t take me wrong, I still consume some content that can be controversial, but it is the awareness aspect of it all that is key.
Now, let’s get into some people that should be on that list, & could be in 2019, with your help:
